PCDO Presents:

community + university =

COMMUNIVERSITY OR

COMMUN-ADVERSITY?

Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 7:30pm

Suzanne Patterson Center, One Monument Drive (behind Boro Hall), Princeton, NJ

Can Princeton University and our two governing bodies cooperate to create a sustainable, mutually beneficial future for our town?

In June of 2008, PCDO passed a resolution urging the community to take action and insist on a fairer allocation of the financial burdens associated with fulfilling the public purposes of our community. Since then, financial pressures on our community have only increased, due to cuts in state aid, revaluation with its attendant regressive shifting of the tax burden, and the punishing recession of the past two years. At the same time, new controversial expansion plans have been proposed by the University, and recent census data show a distressing loss of diversity in the Princeton community over the past 10 years, multiplying the areas of conflict between Town and Gown.

PCDO Local Issues committee members Kevin Wilkes, David Cohen, Sheldon Sturges and Jenny Crumiller will present a program updating members on the latest developments on all these fronts. Discussion will follow, with community members encouraged to bring their ideas on how best to ease tensions, work cooperatively, and juggle the competing agendas of all the players.
