Yina Moore for Borough MayorI believe the challenges before us require that the Borough and Township seek a unity of spirit, goals and shared values to sustain our diverse and thriving community. I seek to ensure that the residents of Princeton Borough not carry an unfair tax burden by pursuing a variety of options for non-profits and educational institutions to contribute to the operating costs of our municipality, services, infrastructure, and schools. Consistent with all of my efforts, I believe public participation helps inform Council deliberations and decision-making. I will help facilitate information sharing, welcome citizen input, and encourage open discussions. My Positions in Brief Consolidation I asked the question in October whether this is a marriage of love or money? Short-term efficiencies and minimal anticipated savings may not sustain a long-term marriage. As two municipalities, we need to find ways to unite our voices in the face of external challenges long before a November ballot questiion. I bring experience in developing consensus and shared purpose. Revaluation- There is something wrong with a process that first establishes a premise or a predetermined outcome and then claims to have a basis in market conditions. The Borough should do all it can, including reverting to the pre-reval assessments, until a new, fairer assessment process can be determined and performed. Development I have served on the Regional Planning Board for ten years. Reviewing applications is routine, but too often considered the only task. Many issues we face today are often due to conflicts with the interests of private developers and the lack of articulating our own vision of our community. To avert conflicts, such as the PU Arts project, the Borough should require planning from the Planning Board. The Dinky– My family’s business was in the transportation industry for almost a century. And while I hold the Dinky dear, it is more than a treasured relic of the past. It is still the major artery that transports most of its riders to places of employment along the NE Corridor while also reducing emissions through the reduction of vehicle trips. My experience will bring to bear new solutions to raise our standards for mass transit service for all in the community.
"I certainly have both appreciated and enjoyed Yina's knowledge, insight and dedication in working to find a win-win with respect to the subtle but fundamentally deep issues associated with Save-the-Dinky. As mayor, her career and life experiences in transportation planning and joint development will be enormously beneficial and most timely to the borough, township and all of Central Jersey. " Alain Kornhauser, Professor, Princeton University - March 2011 Nicholas deB. Katzenbach, former US Attorney General - March 2011
"I support Yina Moore because she understands the political and economic importance to our community of preserving the high quality of our public schools. She has been a tireless and enthusiastic champion of our public schools, and I am confident that as Mayor she would work hard to improve communications between the municipal government and the school board, to the benefit of both institutions and for the greater good of Princeton residents and taxpayers.” Andrea Spalla, Princeton Regional School Board-March 2011
I believe in what Yina stands for and I admire her record to date with the vision, common sense and hard work that she offers along side of many, many valuable contributions to the community over the years." Bill Moody, Jefferson Road, March 2011
