Heather Howard for Borough Council Dear Princeton resident, Thank you for the opportunity to tell you why I am running for Borough Council and why in that role I believe I can help maintain the health and wellbeing of this community. I live on Aiken Avenue with my husband and our son, a third-grader at Riverside Elementary, and we enjoy participating in the cultural, social and educational assets that make Princeton such a great place to live. Professionally, I have devoted my career to progressive public policy, as New Jersey Commissioner of Health and Senior Services, as Chief of Staff to Senator Corzine, and as a Senior Policy Advisor for Hillary Clinton. I am also a Vice-President of the PCDO, a Trustee of Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick, and an active member of the PTO at Riverside Elementary. My personal and professional background will allow me to bring a fresh perspective to the Borough Council. With significant experience managing government budgets and programs – specifically overseeing a $3.5 billion budget and a staff of 1,700 – I can responsibly further progressive causes on the Council. Even more importantly, as a mom, I want my son to grow up in a community that is affordable, diverse, and welcoming to all of its citizens. While health and environmental issues are particularly close to my heart, I also believe that we need policies and programs that keep our community diverse. That diversity is a large part of what makes Princeton Borough a wonderful place to live, and we will need creativity, discipline and new leadership to maintain that strength in these tough economic times. If you choose to support me on November 8th, I commit that I will use my experience and leadership skills to fight for the progressive causes that we support, and also to demonstrate how government can be responsive and accountable to our community. If you’d like to learn more about me, my experience, and why I am running for Borough Council, please feel free to email or call me.
